🎶 The Practice Room on YouTube 🎶
Looking for a way to help your students practice sight singing outside of class? Or maybe you’re a student wanting to get more confident with rhythm and solfege? You’re in the right place.
Over at The Practice Room on YouTube, I’ve been building a free library of sight singing videos that mirror the curriculum you’ll find here. These aren’t just random exercises—they follow a clear, logical sequence designed to help singers build skills step by step, and they are the same exercises you’ll find in the companion workbooks.
What You’ll Find
Video Lessons
These short videos walk singers through the key concepts of each new unit—think rhythm reading, solfege strategies, tips for independence, and more. Perfect for introducing a topic or reviewing it at home.
Rhythmic Exercises
Every rhythm video starts with counts shown on screen to help students learn how the pattern works. After that, the same exercise is shown again without the counts, giving them a chance to try it on their own. This format encourages real independence and builds internal pulse in a structured way.
Melodic Exercises
Just like the rhythmic ones, melodic exercises begin with solfege written in to guide the singer. Once they’ve had a chance to follow along, the solfege disappears—challenging them to rely on their ear and memory. These are great for reinforcing interval recognition, pitch accuracy, and solfege fluency.
Two Part Exercises
Once students are ready for a challenge, two-part exercises help them develop independence and ensemble awareness. One part is displayed while the other is heard—just like singing in a real choir. These are especially helpful for training singers to hold their line in harmony.
Why It Works
The videos line up with the workbooks, so students can easily find the matching exercise and follow along at their own pace. Choir directors can use them in class, assign them as homework, or recommend them for extra practice. It’s like having a built-in assistant to reinforce what you’re already teaching.
New Videos Weekly
I add two new exercises every week and won’t stop until the full curriculum is up. (We’re already over 300 videos strong!)
